Useful Resources for Planning Your Semester in Washington
Students are responsible for their own transportation to Washington, DC. The closest airport to your housing is Reagan National Airport. From there, you can take a cab or the subway (called the Metro) to Capitol Hill. Dulles International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International are a bit further away. You’ll need to take a cab or a shuttle.
You can bring everything with you, shop in DC, and/or ship your belongings to your residence. If shipping, make sure that your belongings will arrive after your expected arrival in Washington addressed to your residence in DC.

Illinois in Washington contracts housing through Washington Intern Student Housing (WISH). WISH has been housing interns, students, and teachers in Washington, DC, since 2000. WISH provides clean, fully furnished intern townhouses and apartments in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, near government buildings, museums, shops, restaurants, theaters, and easy Metro access. Housing is within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol, House and Senate offices, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and Metro stations (Union Station, Capitol South, and Eastern Market).
